St Mary's Church of England Primary & Nursery

Every child has a unique gift.
We develop those gifts with excellence so they can serve, lead and inspire others.

Welcome from
Executive Headteacher
- Mr Constable-Phelps

St Mary’s Church of England Primary and Nursery is a high-performing, exceptionally diverse and deeply inclusive school at the heart of Southampton. Over the past five years, we have built a school of which we are immensely proud. Our children come to us from many different backgrounds, cultures and starting points, but our ambition for every one of them is the same: to flourish. When Ofsted visited in 2023, inspectors said: “Pupils flourish at this exceptional school.” That remains at the heart of St Mary’s today.

We believe that every child has a gift. Something they can be proud of, something that makes them shine and something they can share with the world. Our responsibility is to find that gift, nurture it and give every child the knowledge, confidence and opportunities to fulfil their potential. Our staff are the secret to our success. They know our children, believe in them and consistently go the extra mile to ensure that every child is known, valued and challenged to achieve their very best.

St Mary’s is more than a place where children come to learn. It is a community in which children belong, families are welcomed and difference is celebrated. We are proud of what we have built and even more ambitious about what comes next Come and see St Mary’s for yourself. Come and see what it means for children to flourish.

What we heard
from others

Fantastic afternoon visiting St Mary’s Primary School in Southampton to speak to Year 5 and Year 6 pupils about hashtagTheBigFuture and the need for better safety online and in the community. They were brimming with brilliant ideas to make the city better for children.
Dame Rachel de Souza - Children's Commissioner England (Visited 2026)
The school really cares and what they do extends beyond the gates and the classroom. It is a really special place, a lovely learning environment and a space for children and adults to learn and grow. Because of St Mary's, I was able to get a job after learning English over a year with Mr Buchalter. Teaching adults English unlocks life chances not just for the pupils at the school but for the adults supporting them. Thank you.
Parent Feedback 2026
Pupils flourish at this exceptional school. They receive an excellent education, with a sharp focus on learning and remembering more, growing in character, and future life chances. Relationships are strong and pupils are very happy. They feel incredibly safe in this haven of calm.
